BLM Land Explained

December 1, 2016 by HeritageLand

Some of our recent properties have been located near areas of BLM land, so we’ve been advertising this fact in our listings. But, we noticed we have begun receiving a few questions about this.  What is BLM land?  Is it good or bad to be near it?  Can I enjoy this land or is it private?  Due to all of the questions we’ve been receiving, we decided to write this blog post to explain what exactly BLM land is and why it’s a great thing to be near.

Yellow is BLM Land

What is the BLM?

BLM stands for The Bureau of Land Management, and they are a Federal agency here in the United States.  According to their website, their mission is “to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.” They are in control of over 245 million acres of land, mostly located in the western states.

Is this land open to the public?

Yes, most of this land can be enjoyed by the regular public.  Common activities are camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, boating, rafting, winter sports, and almost anything else you can think of doing on large areas of natural land.

Why is it good to own land near BLM land?

Most of our customers are looking for a retreat to get away from the big cities and lights, so buying land near BLM land is a perfect situation.  When you buy a couple acres to get away from it all, it’s comforting knowing that you are near federally protected land that is guaranteed not to be developed into a shopping mall anytime soon.

Have more Questions?

Check out the BLM website.  Also, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have more questions about the BLM or how it could impact your future land ownership.

Best Ways to Enjoy Vacant Land

October 31, 2016 by HeritageLand

While most people buy vacant land with the intentions of building a home on it, there are some that keep it raw and hold for a long-term investment. But, just because you aren’t going to be living on it, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your new land. Here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy your vacant land investment.

Camping – There is nothing quite like camping on your own property. You are guaranteed total privacy and can modify the land to suit your camping needs. The peace and satisfaction of staring up at the stars from your little piece of paradise can’t be described in words.

Park an RV or Trailer – For those that prefer to sleep in a comfortable trailer, you can bring your own motorhome to your property whenever you would like. It’s all the peace and security of camping on your land, but with a little extra comfort.

Four-Wheeling – For larger properties, an ATV is a great way to explore and enjoy your land investment. 2 and 4-wheel enthusiasts can even modify their land to maximize fun with their weekend toys.

Mountain Biking – Most of our rural properties are surrounded by other large rural properties and are primarily reached by dirt roads. Taking a day trip to explore the surrounding areas on a mountain bike is both enjoyable and great exercise.

Paintball or target Shooting – Your own property is a great place to practice shooting or have a friendly game of paintball. Since it’s your land, you can modify it to suit whatever your needs may be.

As you can see, there are multiple ways to enjoy your vacant land investment other than building a home on it. Take a look at our Available Properties to see if you can find a property that suits you.
